Equine Field Service, Term Lecturer

Applications are invited from qualified individuals for a full-time 27-month term faculty position in Equine Field Service at the Lecturer rank with the Department of Large Animal Clinical Sciences. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in teaching undergraduate veterinary students and veterinarians in specialty training programs (interns, residents) in both classroom and clinical settings. Clinical duties will be assigned within the Equine Field Service Section in the Veterinary Medical Centre. After hours emergency duties will be shared with other clinicians. Teaching duties will be assigned within the Department of Large Animal Clinical Sciences.

The state-of-the-art Veterinary Medical Centre at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine serves western Canada as an AVMA and AAHA accredited hospital and referral centre. The Equine Field Service section provides both first opinion and referral veterinary services to a large client base. The facilities include advance diagnostic imaging, Ryan/Dube Equine Performance Centre with a high-speed equine treadmill, Reporduction Centre and Rae Dawn neonatal intensive care unit at the WCVM. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to collaborate with colleagues and have access to facilities across campus. Qualifications
We are seeking candidates who have a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent with a focus in an Equine Specialty. At least 75% of duties will be related to providing leadership and delivery of clinical services within Equine Field Services, which includes building and maintaining relationships with clients, along with further developing and supporting the current vibrant clinical practice. The remaining 25% of duties will be Instructional activities, which include didactic classroom and laboratory teaching of veterinary undergraduate students, clinical skills training, and in-depth case discussions with veterinary undergraduate students, residents, interns and veterinary technicians as it relates to equine veterinary medicine. There is no requirement for research; however, there is a requirement for completion of a post-graduate degree such as a MSc or PhD, and board specialization or recent completion of a recognized residency training program. Candidates must be licensed or eligible for licensure by the Saskatchewan Veterinary Medical Association (SVMA). Applicants must have a proven commitment to high quality teaching and clinical service provision and have demonstrated potential or competency in a collaborative teaching and clinical environment. Excellent communication skills and clinical teaching experience are required. Didactic teaching experience is preferred.

Salary bands for this position for the 2020-2021 academic year are as follows: Lecturer: $80,116 to $118,960.
