The City of Coquitlam is currently recruiting for a regular full-time Facilities Management Coordinator to join our team of professionals in the Parks, Recreation, Culture and Facilities Department. This is a CUPE 386 position.

Reporting to the Facilities Operations Manager, your responsibilities will include technical, inspectional, administrative and supervisory work involved in coordinating a preventive maintenance and repair program for a large portfolio of Municipal buildings and ancillary equipment, including coordination of projects related to minor capital renovation, major asset replacement, facility security and energy management. The work entails responsibility for ensuring optimum condition and functional suitability of all buildings and ancillary equipment within the portfolio; coordination of construction work for projects; overseeing the preparation of project specifications, schedules, budgets, documents and related matters; preparing and controlling an operating budget; planning, assigning and supervising the work of a moderate sized group of subordinates; and involves close liaison with department representatives, facility managers, building services staff and outside contractors. The incumbent exercises considerable independent judgement and action in analyzing problems, selecting solutions and making recommendations which may result in the commitment of significant resources. Additionally, the individual in the role discusses policy and budget matters and timing implications with a superior who reviews work in terms of attainment of departmental objectives and standards and effectiveness of services rendered.

The ideal candidate should have completed Grade 12 supplemented by a two year technical course in Building Technology and additional courses in Facilities Management plus considerable related experience in building maintenance including supervisory experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Additional requirements include:

• Thorough knowledge of building maintenance methods, materials, and equipment.
• Thorough knowledge of construction methods and materials and their costs as applied to repair, renovation and alteration projects.
• Thorough knowledge of construction project and contract administration and of the methods and procedures used in preparing specifications.
• Considerable knowledge of the bylaws, codes and regulations related to buildings and ancillary equipment and of the departmental policies and procedures applicable to the work performed.
• Working knowledge of the various trades involved in building repairs, renovations, and general maintenance of buildings and ancillary equipment.
• Ability to prepare preventive maintenance schedules for all Municipal Building structures, fixtures and ancillary equipment.
• Ability to review building maintenance, renovation and repair work for conformance to contract specifications and approve or reject completed work.
• Ability to prepare and control an operating budget for preventive maintenance and repair of all Municipal Buildings and ancillary equipment.
• Ability to act as project manager of a wide variety of preventive maintenance and minor capital projects and to coordinate the work of municipal staff or outside contractors.
• Ability to prepare estimates of material and labour costs; understand and prepare specifications for work related to various projects.
• Ability to inspect all Municipal buildings and ancillary equipment for signs of deterioration.
• Ability to plan, assign, supervise and check the work of a moderate sized group of subordinates.
• Ability to establish and maintain liaison with various internal and external contacts.
• Ability to prepare and maintain records and reports related to the work including a computerized record of all maintenance and repair work requested, ordered and completed.
• Ability to communicate effectively.
• Driver’s License for the Province of British Columbia with an acceptable driving record.

A CUPE hourly rate of $40.35 – $47.69 (2020 rates), along with a comprehensive benefits package and an earned day off program is offered.
