The TransX Group of Companies has an exciting opportunity for an Intermodal Coordinator / Dispatcher to join the Operations department in our New Westminster facility. Reporting to the Fleet Manager, this position is responsible for a wide range of duties ensuring our operations run smoothly. This includes coordination with Dispatchers, Planners, Appointment Coordinators, Communication Coordinators and Customer Service, Warehouse and Maintenance personnel.

The primary role of this position is to keep management current through effective reporting as issues occur and decide on problem solving. The Operations Specialist is responsible for following up with the staff to ensure their duties are completed on time and anything that needs to be elevated is communicated.

Shift: Variable but primarily Monday to Friday; 9:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. This position does require regular flexibility to also work afternoons, nights and weekends in order to provide operational coverage and learn various aspects of the business.

Responsibilities

• Plan and carry out Dispatch activities
• Evaluate and improve routing inefficiencies
• Correspond with Drivers and document specific customer data
• Develop competency in Customs to understand the clearing of loads travelling North and South of the Border
• Develop an in-depth understanding of our planning and execution
• Manage and control the Fleet of equipment (tractors and trailers)
• Participate in the training and development of programs and staff
• Develop a thorough understanding of the Safety and Compliance program
• Participate in the training and development of programs and staff
• Gain knowledge of appropriate legislation, compliance, Health and Safety, and the Canada Labour Code
• Develop relationships with key stakeholders
• Perform other duties as assigned, which may include special projects

Qualifications

The successful candidate must meet the following requirements:

Requirements:

• University Degree / College Diploma, or equivalent skills and experience, with preference given to the Transportation Industry or Logistics & Supply Chain.
• Three (3) years’ previous experience in the Transportation Industry or in Logistics & Supply Chain with at least two (2) years’ experience in dispatch
• Experience in Intermodal Operations would be considered an asset

• Enjoy working under pressure in a demanding and time sensitive work environment

• Ability to work under minimal supervision
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills
• Demonstrated ability to lead a group
• Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
• Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills

• Excellent organizational skills
• Ability to take initiative and action quickly
• Able to manage multiple tasks and projects at the same time
• Results orientated team player
• A strong ability to multi-task
• Experience with programs such as Excel and TMW
