Summary:
Stellar Creative Lab is hiring Lighting and Compositing Artists for an awesome New Streaming Action-Comedy Series for DreamWorks Animation. This project is fun for both youngins and the big kids.
Are you someone who can create beautifully integrated shots/sequences with strong technical troubleshooting abilities? If so, we are looking for you! A partner who encompasses many complementary skills, including composition, color theory, material design and rendering performance.
Our ideal candidate will be able to pick up a sequence and block out the lighting based on reference or key shots, then continue refining the look until final shot approval. All members of the lighting team will also be part of a larger effort focused on designing new tools and workflows that benefit the department as a whole.

A strong understanding of the lighting and rendering pipeline
3+ years experience with path tracing renderers (i.e. Vray, Arnold, RenderMan, Redshift) as well as node based compositing software
Excellent problem solving skills with the ability to formulate and test solutions
Good understanding of 3D assets and their impact on lighting and rendering
Creativity and efficiency in equilibrium! We need top creative work balanced with the needs of production to meet deadlines, quotas and technical aspects
Strong ability to work as a team with directors and supervisors, accepting creative criticism and feedback where needed with the knowledge that the creative process is all about development
A good sense of humor is a bonus
Your Main Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Respond to guidance from the client as well as other creative and technical supervisors
Demonstrate the ability to identify visual cues and follow direction from art reference
Using lighting design techniques, direct the viewer’s attention to key story points, convey the mood, and ensure that important action is visible
Adjust lighting rigs to define the aesthetic look of the show
Work closely with other artists, FX artists to integrate all the contributing elements to meet the desired final look
Delivery of final lighting on schedule and within budget
Your Experience, Talents and Abilities:
3+ years of experience as a Lighting & Compositing Artist
Production experience with one or more professional graphics package including Maya, Katana or Houdini and Nuke
Strong compositing skills with a good understanding of camera effects
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Computer Graphics or equivalent work experience.
Relevant understanding of color theory, composition, lighting, aesthetics and how these apply to lighting and rendering in 3D
Strong working knowledge of various software platforms including Katana, Maya, Shake, Nuke, or any other high end CG or compositing software
Strong working knowledge of Linux, Python and shell scripting required.
Look development and/or shader writing preferred
Ability to plan and execute complex 3D lighting scenes including working with layers and passes, doing complex comps and optimizing scenes and renders
Eligible to work in B.C.
