Laboratory Technician Job Description
We are currently seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Laboratory Technician with a strong background in Analytical or Bioanalytical Chemistry to join our research and development facility’s analytical laboratory that applies LC-MS/MS, GC-MS, ICP-OES, HPLC-UV-MS and other related assays/bioanalytical techniques to analyze cannabis samples.
Reporting to Analytical Laboratory Manager,the Laboratory Technician will support analytical laboratory in sample reception, sample login, and preparation along with laboratory documentation according to Health Canada and Canadian Licensing and Testing Services guidelines. The Laboratory analyst will also conduct laboratory tests, analyze data and prepare reports.
In this role the successful candidate will
- Utilize Thermo Fisher Trace 1300/1310 GC and Triplus 300 HeadSpace Sampler coupled with ISQ LT Mass Spectrometer, Vanquish UPLC coupled with QExactive Focus Orbitrap Mass Spectrometer, iCAP7400 ICP-OES, Dionex U3000 UHPLC-DAD coupled with MSQ+ Single Quadrupole Mass Spectrometer and related software’s to analyze cannabis samples.
- Operate and analyze samples using Nitrogen and Moisture analyzer.
- Calibrate, maintain and troubleshoot analytical instruments
- Extraction and clean up plant sample extracts for biochemical analysis.
- Perform Qualitative and Quantitative analysis and review of data to ensure the accuracy and integrity of results.
- Document, analyze, and report data to Research and Development team.
- Remain up to date on all SOPs and other lab related guidelines and maintain documentation required for compliance.
- Perform all tasks in compliance with Environmental, Health, and Safety.
- Assist in laboratory maintenance, including maintaining chemical supply and inventory along with Safety Data Sheet storage and archiving.
- Prepare and arrange waste disposal as per Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (CCOHS) regulations and provincial guidelines.
- Utilize self-reliance in understanding and adhering to laboratory safety precautions and proper use of personal protective equipment.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree (B.Sc.) in Analytical or Bioanalytical Chemistry or a closely related field.
- Have scientific curiosity and passion to learn and be able to work independently and as a part of a team.
- Attention to details with excellent communication skills, time management and organizational skills.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience (within the last 3 years) in routinely using GC-MS/MS or LCMS/MS or HPLV-UV systems for qualitative and quantitative analysis of food and/or plant samples, data analysis and interpretation.
- Familiarity with data acquisition and instruments’ software packages such as Thermo Chromeleon, xcalibur, Qtegra, TraceFinder, NIST-AMDIS, Leco Cornerstone, etc. would be an asset.
- Knowledge and expertise in sample preparation and cleanup techniques that are required for food and/or plant samples.
- Acquainted with the use of laboratory hoods, safety equipment, mixers, hot plates, pH meters, glassware, mills, basic analytical instrumentation, quantitative chemical analysis, and chemical reactivity (e.g., acids, bases, flammables).
- Willingness and ability to test large numbers of samples with reliable repeatability and commitment to achieve good quality work.
- Experience in using Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) to record and document all analytical activities and results during the processing of samples.
- Knowledge and understanding of Good Laboratory and Good Research Practices.
- Computer literate in Microsoft Office
- Ability to complete a satisfactory criminal record check.
