IMMEDIATE NEEDS – Sign On Bonus…As a key member of the care team, the Registered Nurse establishes, monitors and delivers nursing care to clients residing in the Yukon Indigenous Communities. The experienced Northern Nurse must adhere to the policies and procedures under the direction of the Government of Yukon.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Arrange and/or provide client care by utilizing the skills of observation, assessment, nursing diagnosis, counseling and health teaching; report any unusual circumstances to the immediate supervisor.
Provide care in the following areas: adult and pediatric primary care; prenatal patient care, delivery of newborns; diagnosing and treating minor acute illnesses and injuries; administration, compounding and dispensing of medications; consultation with physicians and the Health Center charge nurse; emergency nursing care, suturing, Immunization and community health education and promotion.
Provide care according to the established care plan ensuring that, on an ongoing basis, the emotional, spiritual, physical comfort and safety of clients are met to the greatest possible extent; care must be within the scope of practice of a Registered Nurse.
Perform routine nursing duties in accordance with company policies and procedures and Standards of Nursing Practice as defined by the provincial regulating body; perform specialized nursing procedures for which recognized training and current competency can be demonstrated.
Observe and document client conditions according to Bayshore Home Health standards.
Receive and transcribe physician’s orders.
Participate in ongoing internal and/or external continuing education activities.
Understands and implements infection prevention practices.
Adhere to Bayshore Policies and Procedures.
Participate in quality activities and continuous improvement initiatives in keeping with the company’s Quality Management System.
Participates in proactive Health & Safety activities while performing all duties. Is responsible to notify immediate Supervisor of any Health & Safety risks or concerns.
Maintains confidentiality of client and corporate information and discusses same only with appropriate Bayshore personnel.
Complete other tasks as requested.
Job Qualification
Education
Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing, Nurse Practitioner training or Northern Clinical Training and current registration with the provincial licensing body or willing to apply. The position also requires a solid knowledge of the principles, practices and methods of community nursing and service delivery to clients.
Experience
At least one year of recent experience (within the past 5 years), working in remote, isolated or semi-isolated communities and 2 years experience over the past 5 years performing nursing activities and services in primary care and advanced clinical assessments. The experience may be within the emergency, intensive care unit or within community settings such as health care centers (eg: Urgent Care Center).
Other Skills and Abilities
CPR, ACLS, ITLS/TNCC, PALS, Immunization & Controlled Substance Competencies, Vulnerable Sector check. Additional courses and continuing education programs will be reviewed at time of interview.
Must have valid Canadian driver’s license
Strong assessment skills and proven ability to effectively communicate required along with exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to handle difficult situations in an objective consistent format; ability to work independently and as part of a team; able to perform and prioritize multiple functions.
Average assignment durations vary from 4 to 6 weeks.
