Senior Data Scientist – Microsoft – Vancouver, BC Full Time

Within Microsoft Teams- the Microsoft Teams Calling & Meetings group is focused on intelligent, real-time connected/collaboration experiences. The products and services this team produces are vital to the continued productivity of governments, NGOs, schools, business-large & small all around the world.
We are looking for a strong data engineer- someone who brings deep technical/problem solving chops, customer empathy & a passion for building highly scaled, yet low latency data pipelines & visualizations that help build a better tomorrow. You can figure out any new technology and can build from the ground up OR leverage the work of others- do what needs to be done- to synthesize enormous volumes of data to extract relevant insights that help Microsoft Teams exceed customer/market expectations.

- Evaluate, design, develop, and maintain analytic capabilities that deliver insight from telemetry to minimize outages and other incidents across Microsoft Teams
- Work with engineers in different feature areas to deliver the success of the Teams Intelligent Calling & Meeting vision.
- Help stand up scalable & reliable services with great monitoring & telemetry support
- Champion best practices, tools and processes for a data-driven, quality-focused release of Microsoft Teams as frequently as possible to our customers
- Help drive technical and operational excellence on the engineering team
Qualifications
Qualifications
- Hands-on 3+ years of experience on machine learning, text analysis, data mining, and NLP
- 3+ years experience in software development
- Knowledge of Scala, Python, C#, C++, Java or Typescript with 2-3 years of experience
- MS/PhD degree in CS/EE or related areas is preferred.
- Passionate, self-motivated
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written
- Familiarity with distributed data processing/analysis and modeling paradigm, such as Apache Spark, Hadoop MapReduce
- Familiar with ML toolkits- CNTK, TensorFlow or other.
