Organization Information
YouthLink Calgary is a cutting edge police museum where crime prevention
and community policing are at the heart of everything we do.
YouthLink operates in partnership with the Calgary Police Service to deliver relevant and meaningful content to Calgary youth and adults. Our museum and programs engage visitors and focus on crime prevention, forensic science, and the Calgary Police Service’s history and current role in our community. Our School Programming includes: one day crime prevention and forensic science fieldtrips for Grade 6 students, and half-day fieldtrips for grades 4-12 students. Our Public Programming includes: museum activities for visitors, birthday parties, youth group programs, summer and PD day camps, and special events. Our Police School program is a 4-day program where grade 6 classes spend the week at YouthLink learning about and experiencing different areas of the Calgary Police Service. This program is facilitated by CPS officers and YL Educators and strives to build meaningful relationships between youth and police.
Responsibilities
Reporting to the Education Team Lead, YouthLink Educators are responsible for the delivery of our grade six one day school programs, our camp programming (summer and PD Days) and may be required on occasion to assist with police school programming and other public programming (such as special events). Educators must have exceptional front-line, interpersonal communication skills and experience in facilitation and program delivery to a variety of audiences. YouthLink Educators will be trained to deliver programming focused on numerous topics including policing, crime prevention (gangs, healthy relationships, bullying, online safety and drugs), and forensic science.
YouthLink Educators must ensure that program participants have an experience that is engaging, fun, but also meaningful. Educators will need to be able respond to participants around sensitive issues, as well as connect them with relevant supports and resources in CPS and in the community. YouthLink Educators will be responsible for understanding, providing feedback and helping improve programs and their delivery. They will be responsible for collecting participation data and supporting program evaluation.
Flexibility, excellent people skills, strong problem-solving abilities, high energy, and passion are vital to this role. YouthLink Educators serve as important, positive and strong ambassadors for YouthLink Calgary and the Calgary Police Service and should strive to endorse both organizations’ missions and mandates. All members of the Education Team must maintain supportive and collaborative working relationships with all YouthLink staff and volunteers.
